Metropolitan Police awards major fleet deal to Rivus

The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) has signed up Rivus to take care of its fleet for up to 10 years under a major new deal.

Rivus will manage the maintenance and repair of 3,700 emergency response, support and general-purpose vehicles

The multiple maintenance and repair contracts will take effect from 1 November 2023 and follow a rigorous, multi-lot, competitive tender process.

The Metropolitan Police Service is the UK’s largest police force and has over 5,200 fleet assets on the roads in Greater London, travelling 52 million miles each year and providing mission-critical support.

Rivus will manage the maintenance and repair of 3,700 emergency response, support and general-purpose vehicles, providing specialist fleet expertise to keep them capable, responsive and safe.

Victoria Knight, chief executive officer (interim) at Rivus, said: “This is a hugely significant new business win for our business and recognises the journey we have been on and the progress we have made over the last three years as Rivus.

“We have earned a reputation in our industry as the experts in managing the UK’s most critical fleets, and there is no fleet more critical than the Met Police. This is an exciting new chapter for Rivus, as we continue to accelerate growth, drive innovation, and deliver a financially healthy business for the future, demonstrating that Rivus is the only fleet partner our customers ever need.”

The business win is particularly significant as Rivus has been awarded all fleet contracts on offer. After spending 20 years with the same supplier, MPS decided to move from a single supplier to a multi-supplier model. It’s split its fleet requirements across six service area requirements, covering Service Maintenance and Repair (SMR), Accident Management, Vehicle Collection and Delivery, and a comprehensive service management IT platform.

Rivus made the strategic decision to tender for all six contracts and won them all on the basis of the strength and quality of its service offering.

The two firms are now working on a joint delivery transition period with the current supplier, ensuring a seamless operational handover that will keep the critical Metropolitan Police Service fleet moving throughout.
