Mazda2 Hybrid gets stronger brand identity for 2024

Mazda is launching an updated version of its hybrid supermini, introducing bolder brand styling and a more familiar grade structure.

The updated Mazda2 Hybrid arrives in March 2024

The current Mazda2 Hybrid arrived in May 2022 as a rebadged version of the Toyota Yaris, forming part of the carmakers’ long-term technology collaboration. A completely separate model to the Mazda2 petrol and mild hybrids, it’s been sold alongside them to provide a full hybrid option for drivers and support Mazda’s ‘Sustainable Zoom-Zoom 2030’ eco plan.

The revised model arrives in March 2024 and features a more differentiated appearance from its Toyota sibling. While the current version is only marked out with different badging, the 2024 Mazda2 gets a bespoke front bumper and grille design and revised rear bumper and tailgate, designed at Mazda’s European Design Studio in Germany and giving the new arrival “a fresh and independent look”.

UK pricing and full specifications are yet to be announced but the brand has confirmed that grade structure is being revamped, dropping the current Pure, Agile and Select designations and instead adopting the more familiar Centre-Line, Exclusive-Line, Homura and Homura Plus Mazda structure.

The full hybrid powertrain is carried over, teaming up a 1.5-litre petrol with an 80hp electric motor, giving total output of 116hp.

Jeremy Thomson, managing director at Mazda UK, said: “The Mazda2 Hybrid is a popular addition to our line-up in the UK and we have good demand for the car in our dealerships and it’s great that from next March it will feature a greater element of Mazda exterior design personality. With the Mazda2 Hybrid sold alongside the recently updated Mazda2, which offers our customers extra individuality with more distinct model grades, increased colour choice and refreshed styling, we are giving customers in the supermini segment the choice of two distinct models, depending on their needs.”
