Jeep Renegade and Compass debut mild hybrid powertrain

Jeep has introduced new 48V mild hybrid versions of the Renegade and Compass, priced from £31,130 and £32,895 respectively.

Jeep Renegade e-Hybrid and Compass e-Hybrid

Launched on the back of the successful plug-in-hybrid 4xe range, the e-Hybrid two-wheel drive powertrain is intended to offer a new entry point into the brand’s electrified portfolio and delivers up to 15% lower consumption and CO2 emissions than the previous petrol versions.

Jeep’s growing 4xe plug-in hybrid range currently accounts for 25%+ of the brand’s total sales in Europe and the brand said the new e-Hybrid models were another step towards the comprehensive electrification of its full product line-up in Europe.

Antonella Bruno, head of Jeep Brand Europe, commented: “The Jeep Compass and Renegade e-Hybrid offer a new entry point into our electrified portfolio expanding our sales momentum by offering more hybrid options to more European customers. This product expansion will continue in the summer of this year with the introduction of the 4xe version of the all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee.”

The powertrain debuts a four-cylinder 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine delivering 130hp and 240Nm of peak torque, coupled with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The mild hybrid tech uses a 20hp electric motor delivering 55Nm of torque and enables full electric propulsion from start-up, at low speeds, when cruising and in parking manoeuvres.

The e-Hybrid tech also provides ‘e-Coasting’ and mixed regenerative braking to maximise the recovery of kinetic energy and improve efficiency, along with ‘e-Boosting’ to support the petrol engine with extra torque.

Drivers can manage the hybrid system via an 8.4-inch touchscreen included on the Uconnect Nav system – a 10.1-inch screen is also available on the Compass. The system also includes onboard and remote connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration.

Connected services via the pre-installed Uconnect Box bring a range of features such as the My Uconnect mobile app, a smartwatch, the website, buttons on the vehicle’s ceiling lights, and voice assistants (Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant).

Drivers can also use the My Uconnect app to manage the vehicle’s status and maintenance, enable remote control of location, lock and unlock the doors, turn the lights on and to receive support as needed.

Both models are also available in a new Upland special edition that brings bespoke styling, including a two-tone roof, along with sustainable materials and eco-friendly paints and finishes. The Upland edition will also be available on Renegade and Compass 4xe Plug-in-Hybrid models.

Standard safety equipment across both the Renegade e-Hybrid and Compass e-Hybrid ranges includes Traffic Sign Recognition, Intelligent Speed Assist, Drowsy Driver Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian and Cyclist Recognition (Compass only) and a new Highway Assist system.

The new Compass e-Hybrid range consists of four trim levels – Night Eagle, Limited, Upland and S – while Renegade e-Hybrid will be available in Upland and S.

Orders for the e-Hybrid versions are open now, with the first vehicles expected in the UK in March.
