Ahead of Diode’s return to the Great British Fleet Event for 2025, the co-founder and COO of the software firm reveals his job ambitions, dream car garage and favourite takeaway.
Dan Lawrence-Eyre of Diode
What is your ambition in your current job role?
To help as many fleet managers as possible on their journey to EV, all assisted through our partners such as Northgate, Athlon and Lombard.
What job did you want to do when you were growing up?
Well, I flip-flopped around a little bit, but the consistent theme was something creative, ideally an interior designer.
The best takeaway food is…?
Chinese. Sweet and sour chicken, with the peppers taken out.
What’s the proudest moment in your career?
Being part of an incredible team that took Diode from Post-it notes on my kitchen wall to partnerships with some of the biggest banking and leasing companies in the world.
What’s your favourite film and why?
Deadpool. In fact, absolutely anything with Ryan Reynolds in.
If money was no object, what’s the first thing you would buy?
An electric motorhome. My parents bought a motorhome just before the pandemic and we used it loads and loved it. Then, unfortunately, they got rid of it and I really miss trips in it!
Name three cars in your dream garage
I would struggle to fit in three cars because a lot of the space would be filled with a Lego City, but it would be an Audi e-tron, the Polestar 6 concept and a Polestar 2.
What are the biggest challenges facing fleets at the moment?
Having access to insights to help them make informed decisions about electric vehicles.
You’re on your dream holiday. Where in the world are you?
Thailand.
Night in or night out?
A night in, playing with Lego, having a gin and watching Netflix.
What’s your supermarket of choice?
Sainsbury’s, with a nod to Heron Foods, because I love a bargain.
What car do you currently drive?
An ageing Renault Zoe, soon to be replaced by a Polestar 2.
Tea, coffee or other (state alternative)?
Coffee – specifically an iced oat-milk Americano with honey.
Books, magazines or podcasts? Which ones?
Podcasts. And Fleet World magazine.
Who is your idol in life and work?
My husband Steve ticks both those boxes. He is a doctor of science, incredibly smart and no-one works harder than him.
