The first of six modules will look at Duty of Care Management and will be held at the AA headquarters in Basingstoke on 20 May. 

Chairman of the ICFM, Paul Hollick commented: ‘The ICFM Council wished to supplement our core competence-based training currently offered to members – leading to the Introductory Certificate, the Certificate and the Diploma in Car Fleet Management – with fleet awareness modules on hot topics of interest and relevance to car and LCV fleet operators, irrespective of their level of fleet experience. We canvassed our members last year and they came up with a list of the top six issues they were interested in. The idea is that each Fleet Awareness Module will address a given topic within a day. We are delighted to offer the opportunity to individuals to hone their skills and keep up to date on best practice. 

‘We also wished to accommodate trainees who did not currently have the time to commit to studying for the Introductory Certificate in Car Fleet Management but who wanted to quickly come up to speed on a given issue. The Fleet Awareness Modules will also provide an opportunity for participants to undergo a post-event knowledge assessment, leading to the presentation of a Fleet Awareness Module certificate relating to the module content on the day. 

‘The modules are also seen as a way of introducing non-ICFM members to the benefits of membership and longer duration, more intensive training.’ 

The six new ICFM Fleet Awareness Modules are:

• Accident Management

• Driving Down Fleet Costs

• Duty of Care Management

• Fuel Management

• Grey Fleet Management

• Influencing Driver Behaviour. 

The first Fleet Awareness Module on offer will provide background to Duty of Care; an overview of the key risks and consequences of negligence; cover the implications for drivers and fleet operators; outline risk identification principles and framework; and offer a risk containment process model. The one day session will include case studies and group task presentations and plenary reviews. 

The cost of each ICFM Fleet Awareness Module is £130 for members and £195 for non-members.
