Revealed last summer at the CV Show, it’s the first full hybrid van in the UK market and is based on the Corolla Touring Sports 1.8 Hybrid car but with the rear seats replaced with a lined load area that’s 1,558mm long, 952mm wide and 682mm high, according to provisional figures. It also features a full metal bulkhead. Towing capacity, again provisional, is 750kg (braked).

The 1.8-litre hybrid system allows the van to run on electric power in EV mode; it will also automatically switch to EV running when battery charge and driving conditions permit, maximising fuel and emissions efficiency.

Toyota estimates WLTP combined cycle fuel economy of 55.3-62.7mpg with 102-115g/km CO2 emissions.

It’s aimed at businesses and drivers seeking lower CO2 emissions and the flexibility to cover long distances and high mileages with comfort, proven reliability and competitive running costs.

The Corolla Commercial is available in a single specification that includes eight-inch multimedia display, smartphone integration with Apple Car Play and Android Auto, reversing camera, automatic headlights, heated and power-adjustable door mirrors, dual-zone air con and heated, height-adjustable seats with power lumbar adjustment for the driver.

It’s also equipped with Toyota Safety Sense active safety and driver assistance systems, including Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist.

As with all Toyota vehicles, the Corolla Commercial has a three-year new vehicle warranty, after which it qualifies for the free Toyota Relax warranty of up to 10 years/100,000 miles.

As part of the Toyota Professional range of LCVs, it also comes with five years’ roadside assistance and the guarantee of a service appointment within seven days, or a 50% reduction in servicing labour costs if this isn’t met.

The Corolla Commercial is being built at Toyota’s Burnaston plant alongside the Corolla Hatchback and Touring Sports and starts first deliveries in June. Further model information will be announced in the coming weeks.
