It follows on from the 2020 launch of the Honda e and is one of three new electrified SUVs that the brand will launch in Europe this year, alongside the new CR-V and ZR-V hybrid crossovers.

Previewed in prototype form in 2022, it’s a compact SUV said to offer trademark Honda dynamics, responsive driving and premium levels of ride comfort.

It’s built on an al-new e:N Architecture F platform and features a short front overhang, large wheels and a wide track to take a bold stance on design.

The e:Ny1 also introduces an all-new design language for Honda EVs through white ‘H’ badging around the vehicle and new Honda text on the rear of the vehicle.

The powertrain features a front-mounted 204hp motor fed by a 68.8kWh lithium-ion battery, able to cover 256 miles between charges. Charging specifications haven’t been revealed but a DC fast charge will take it from 10 to 80% in just 45 minutes.

An all-new chassis developed specifically for battery electric vehicles enables a high rigidity body structure, a low centre of gravity and “carefully managed under-floor aerodynamics”.

“The e:Ny1 is the logical next step on our electrification journey in Europe,” said Tom Gardner, senior vice president at Honda Motor Europe. “Our development philosophy blends intelligent, customer-centric technology with beautiful design and fun-to-drive dynamics. This latest SUV exemplifies Honda’s commitment to electrification and is the latest step on Honda’s electrification journey.”

The e:Ny1 is due on sale this summer, with pricing and specifications to be announced closer to the launch.
