HMRC publishes latest advisory fuel rates

HMRC has announced latest advisory fuel rates, which take effect from 1 December 2020 and bring just one update.

The rate for petrol engines from 1401cc to 2000cc drops a penny to 11ppm from 1 December 2020

The only change is for petrol engines from 1401cc to 2000cc, where the rate drops a penny to 11ppm.

All other rates, including for diesel and LPG-fuelled models, remain the same.

The electric vehicle rate remains at 4ppm.

The new tables are as follows (old rates in brackets):

Engine size Petrol – amount per mile LPG – amount per mile
1400cc or less 10 pence (10p) 7 pence (7p)
1401cc to 2000cc 11 pence (12p) 8 pence (8p)
Over 2000cc 17 pence (17) 12 pence (12p)
Engine size Diesel – amount per mile
1600cc or less 8 pence (8p)
1601cc to 2000cc 10 pence (10p)
Over 2000cc 12 pence (12p)

As before, hybrid cars are to be treated as petrol or diesel vehicles.

The previous rates can be used for up to one month from the date the new rates apply.
