Frankfurt Motor Show: Renault hints at next Espace with Initiale Paris

The sixth concept car in the design strategy initiated by Laurens van den Acker, the concept has a clear stake on the premium sector.

At 4.85m long, the concept is roughly the same size as a Grand Espace and promises impressive spaciousness on board, according to the brand. The styling is meant to convey the vitality of a saloon, through the grille and muscular shoulders, with the character of an SUV, thanks to its large 22-inch wheels and sculptured wings, and the light and space of an MPV, through large glazed areas and a plexiglass roof with a picture of Paris.

The brand also says the styling brings together elements from architecture and aeronautics, including a rear quarter light and structural composition intended to give a nod to the Grand Palais and the Eiffel Tower.

Meanwhile the interior takes its inspiration from aeronautics and ultra-high-end contemporary outdoor furniture and uses aluminium and wood detailing.

Other design highlights include the rear-hinged doors and full-LED lights along with the use of the letter “I” for Initiale Paris for the vehicle sides and wheels.

The car is expected to go on sale in a toned-down production version in 2014. However Renault hasn’t confirmed whether it will be sold in the UK, where the current model was dropped in February 2012.
