EV drivers get free electricity on new SSE tariff

SSE Energy Services has launched a brand-new tariff that provides customers with free electricity when they charge overnight.

1 Year Fix and Drive is a one-year fixed tariff that will give customers up to 2,000 kWh of electricity free per year when they charge their car overnight (midnight to 7am)

Dubbed 1 Year Fix and Drive and available to new and existing customers, it’s a one-year fixed tariff that will give customers up to 2,000 kWh of electricity free per year, said to work out to 8,000 free miles based on a Tesla Model 3.

In addition, when a customer takes out this tariff, all electricity will be matched with 100% renewable electricity. As a further benefit, the tariff is available with no exit fee, although customers will need to have a smart meter, with SSE giving up to 60 days for customers to arrange the installation.

Stephen Forbes, managing director of SSE Energy Services, said: “We know that the majority of EV owners charge their car at home as this is the easiest way to keep their battery topped up. Here at SSE, we want to make using electric cars even more convenient, which is why our new 1 Year Fix and Drive tariff allows customers to charge their car at home overnight for free.

“We hope this new tariff will help the growing number of electric vehicle owners across the country reduce their carbon footprint and take control of their bills, too.”
