Driver training should not be a “one off”

So says Jonathan Mosley, director – sales & marketing at E-Training World, who says that rather than offering training once a year, or when a driver is deemed to be having too many accidents, it should be provided to ensure that careful, accident free, driving remains at the forefront of people’s minds all year round.

‘A one-off driver training course will deliver a change in behaviour, however it doesn’t take too long before bad driving habits creep back in,’ said Mosley.

‘But by offering company car, and grey fleet, drivers regular online courses lasting only 15 to 20 minutes you can improve their abilities in a whole host of areas including hazard perception, manoeuvring, avoiding rear end collisions, driving in adverse weather conditions and so on.’

The firm said that regular training, monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly, can begin to instil safe driving into the culture of a business as well as making drivers realise that their driving standards are being taken very seriously by their employer. In particular, the firm recommends e-learning courses such as its own, which can be offered at very low cost and are quick and easy for drivers to conduct.

‘Asking a driver to log into a system for 20 minutes every other month is a very simple request indeed,’ concluded Mosley. ‘However, by doing so can lead to reduced accidents across a vehicle fleet resulting in very major savings, as well as eliminating a great deal of time spent processing claims, dealing with repairers and sorting out hire cars.’
