Consultation opens on draft revised Air Quality Strategy

The Government has launched a consultation on its revised Air Quality Strategy, which sets out the actions it expects local authorities in England to take in support of air quality goals.

The draft strategy, which provides a framework to enable local authorities to make the best use of their powers

Only open until 21 April 2023, the consultation seeks views on the draft strategy, which provides a framework to enable local authorities to make the best use of their powers and deliver for their communities.

The responses to this consultation will help inform the final AQS, due to be published later this year.

The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs said more must be done to protect people and the environment from the effects of air pollution – and there is a key role for local government in identifying and targeting measures to improve air quality in their areas.

The draft strategy sets out responsibilities and duties for local government to take in improving air quality across England, including from transport.

Views are particularly invited from local authorities and other local partners, but responses from all other interested parties and the wider public are also welcome.

The consultation closes at 11:30pm on 21 April 2023 and is available here.
