Oxfordshire County Council has opened a consultation on proposed changes to the Oxford Zero Emission Zone (ZEZ) pilot.

The ZEZ pilot was introduced in February 2022 on nine streets in Oxford city centre, bringing charges on all petrol and diesel vehicles, including hybrids, unless exempt. However, zero-emission vehicles, such as electric cars, can enter the pilot area free of charge.

The pilot enables Oxfordshire County Council and Oxford City Council to gain insights before introducing a larger ZEZ covering most of Oxford city centre.

Proposed changes include continuing discounts for Blue Badge holders, disabled tax class vehicles, ZEZ business vehicles, and ZEZ residents’ vehicles, which were due to end in July 2025.

The consultation also explores removing the planned increase in daily charges – the ZEZ rates are currently due to double in August 2025.
