Citroën revives petrol and diesel Berlingo variants on back of demand

Citroën is bringing back petrol and diesel variants of its Berlingo MPV on the back of demand.

The Citroën Berlingo returns in petrol and diesel guise thanks to popular demand

The ICE versions were axed in late 2020 when the ë-Berlingo Electric launched, but the brand said customer demand for petrol and diesel variants has remained strong alongside the popularity of the EV.

Available to order now, the petrol and diesel Berlingo range will go into production from May 2023 and will be priced from £25,590 and £25,465 respectively.

They’re solely available as five-seat ‘M’ versions – ë-Berlingo Electric models will still be available in either M or seven-seat XL variants.

Engine options span the entry 110hp PureTech 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol and the 100hp BlueHDi 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel – both with a six-speed manual gearbox – plus the top-rung 130hp 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel with eight-speed auto.

All three powertrains are available in the Feel trim level, which includes an eight-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, DAB radio, plus Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other equipment on Flair models includes manual air-con, electrically operated heated door mirrors, rear parking sensors and automatic intelligent beam headlights.

The higher-powered diesel is also available in Flair XTR guise, which adds in 17-inch alloy wheels, gloss black roof bars, front and rear scuff plates, orange fog light surrounds, and an opening tailgate window with dark tinted rear and side windows. Other bespoke styling cues include orange fog light surrounds, ‘XTR’ badging and a ‘Resada Green’ interior detailing.

Safety and driver assistance systems on both trims include Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Safety Brake, Cruise Control and Speed Limiter, Speed limit recognition and recommendation, and driver attention alert.

Both models also feature the Citroën Connect Box Emergency & Assistance system which places the driver in touch with a trained advisor in the event of an accident or breakdown.

The Ë-Berlingo Electric remains on sale and features a 50kWh battery and 136hp electric motor, with a WLTP range of up to 174 miles. All models support up to 100kW rapid charging with an 80% charge completed in just 30 minutes. ë-Berlingo versions also get a 10-inch digital driver’s instrument display.
