The industry expert’s data for September 2013 shows that Peugeot has made a huge leap forward with its new model, with average RVs 9.3 percentage points higher than for the outgoing 308, as well as beating several key rivals and the segment average.

Amongst the diesel line-up, the Active Blue 1.6-litre HDi 120 has an RV of 34.40% compared to a segment average of 32.69%, which will give the car a value after three years of £6,550. For petrol cars, the Active 1.2-litre e-THP 130 has an RV of 31.72% against a segment average of 28.10% and will give the car a projected value of £5,750.

Fleets also stand to gain from reduced SMR projected costs. Service intervals across the range have risen from 12,500 to 16,000 miles, meaning that on a typical three-year / 60,000 mile contract the number of services drops from four to three.

And fleets and fleet drivers also stand to benefit from low company car tax costs for the 1.6-litre HDi 115 engine, which is set to be the most popular fleet choice thanks to a CO2 output of 95g/km. With a Benefit-in-Kind (BIK) value of 13%, a 40% tax payer would contribute just £81 per month, a figure that’s again lower than several key rivals.

Bob Grant, Peugeot’s whole-life cost manager, said: ‘It’s a significant saving over a 36-month contract and it also has a knock-on benefit for employers who will see a reduction in Employer’s National Insurance contributions on the vehicle benefit.’

Meanwhile the petrol line-up also offers excellent efficiencies for business users doing lower mileage, in particular the new 1.2-litre e-THP three-cylinder turbocharged unit, which offers quiet and refined performance, with expected emissions from just 104g/km.

‘The new 308 is the most competitive car we have ever launched because it combines so many virtues and a class-leading CO2 position,’ added Bob Grant. ‘Weight reduction spearheaded by the new EMP2 chassis, many other weight-savings thanks to particular attention-to-detail features, improved aerodynamics and engine efficiencies are just some of the many highlights that have all contributed to this advantageous position. These competitive advancements and the overall attractive product design and high quality are the great influencers of the success of our Benefit-In-Kind and whole-life cost story.’

The new Peugeot 308 is now available to order in the UK, with first deliveries in January 2014.
