Buoyant times for Scottish used car sales

The firm said that due to strong trade demand, stock levels are running at lower levels than the business has seen historically, in spite of the number of new vendor relationships created this year.

Commenting on the high activity levels, SMA’s national operations director, Eddie Thomson, said: ‘The sales momentum across Scotland has been very strong. Both physical and digital buyers have been very active. However, condition remains a key requisite and buyers are demonstrating a canny touch in terms of prices.

‘In terms of values, whilst the market is buoyant, buyers are clear about what represents value and there is a clear price ceiling. To help our vendors, we have encouraged them to consider the cost/value of refurbishment and this has proved to be a popular and effective option.’

He added that the outlook to the end of the year is a positive one: ‘It appears that the conclusion of the referendum has released some pent up demand. We think that a record final two months is very possible.’
