BMW discontinues Efficient Dynamics 5 Series as 520d SE emissions drop to 119g/km

Brian Cox, product operations manager for large cars at BMW UK, explained that emissions for the revised 520d SE have fallen from 125g/km to 119g/km – the same level as the ED model – but with the added advantage of a choice of either manual or automatic transmission and without the £405 premium.

‘We were restricted to only manual transmission on the 520d ED; now customers get a choice while all the benefits of Efficient Dynamics remain,’ he told news agency Headlineauto.

He added that with over five years’ experience of producing models under its Efficient Dynamics tag, the carmaker has incorporated everything its learnt in its cars as BMW reconciles its heritage of power with being the world's most sustainable car company.

Cox also said that the changes see BMW launch Euro VI compliant engines a year before they become mandatory.
