Audi simplifies UK model range structure

Audi UK has streamlined its model range structure to simplify the selection process for customers while adding further value.

The changes will reduce the number of model derivatives by some 45%

The new ‘range rationalisation strategy’ pares back the line-up to three core specification levels for standard models and two for S versions, available with two optional trim packs. This will reduce the number of derivatives by 45%, cutting confusion for buyers while driving the brand’s competitiveness.

The first phase of revisions focuses on 11 models, from the A1 to the Q8.

For the A1 through to the Q5, standard models now get three choices – Sport, S line or Black Edition specification – eliminating previously available trim options such as Technik, Sport Edition, Edition 1 and Vorsprung. The three main trim lines have also been enhanced, either with extra equipment or revised specifications, depending on the model.

Further up the range, conventional ICE versions of the Q7 now start at S line level, followed by Black Edition and an upgraded version of Vorsprung specification as the top grade, in line with the existing structure for the flagship Q8. The A8 saloon continues to be available in Sport, S line and Black Edition forms, and the Long Wheelbase version as a Sport, S line or Vorsprung.

Higher-performance S models meanwhile now come in two grades: Black Edition and Vorsprung.

New Technology option packs also debut, tailored according to the model line’s market segment and specific customer profile and said to deliver significant improvements compared to before.

The new strategy means customers can potentially save money on their preferred specifications. Audi uses the Q7 model range as an example, where one of the most popular customer specification requests includes the Black Styling Pack in combination with a panoramic sunroof. This previously meant customers had to choose the Q7 Vorsprung, priced at £86,070. The new structure means they can get the Q7 Black Edition, priced at £68,520 and fitted with the Technology Pack Pro at £5,995, saving more than £11,000.

Andrew Doyle, director of Audi UK, said: “Choosing a new Audi should be an experience to savour, and we want to make the process of doing so as efficient, well-resolved and user-friendly as the extraordinary cars it grants access to.

“By further improving online access to a much leaner model portfolio based around simpler, more consistent trim lines that bring added customer value to virtually every variant, we have not only furthered that aim, but also significantly strengthened our competitive position.”

The brand is also making simultaneous improvements to its online customer ‘purchase journey’, cutting down the number of steps buyers need to take to build their ideal model.

The changes apply to all orders placed from 12 April 2023 and the next phase of revisions will follow later this year.
