On sale from March, the second-generation of the SUV range-topper is kitted out with the brand’s latest design language, including an updated version of the Singleframe grille and revamped headlamps. These feature HD Matrix LED technology with lasers as an additional beam light (available on Vorsprung spec only) and digital daytime running lights with selectable light signatures.

Digital OLED rear lights are also available for the Q7 for the first time, offered with four different designs. These also get a new “proximity indication feature”, already seen in the A8, Q8 and Q5, which flashes when anyone gets too close to the Q7 while it’s stationary. Additional functions include dynamic turn signals as well as various coming-home and leaving-home sequences that match each digital light signature.

Audi has also thrown in new wheels, exterior colours and enhanced specifications to provide more customisation options. The UK trim structure consists of S Line, Black Edition, a limited-run Launch Edition and the top-rung Vorsprung. The high-performance SQ7 TFSI is available as a Black Edition and Vorsprung.

The result, Audi says, is a cleaner and more purist look that also differentiates the Q7 from the A models. The S Line model also gets bespoke updates, bringing it more in line with the SQ7 TFSI.

Tech updates introduce an expanded range of apps; passengers can now directly use popular apps from third-party providers (such as Spotify or Amazon Music) and can access app stores via the MIB system.

Driver assistance system updates see the Audi virtual cockpit now display a lane change warning, other road users (trucks, cars, and motorcycles), distance warning, intersection assist, and traffic light info online in full HD quality.

Standard equipment across the line-up includes Quattro all-wheel drive, adaptive air suspension, Matrix LED headlamps, rear-view camera, leather upholstery, electrically adjustable heated front sports seats, Audi Virtual cockpit, climate control and privacy glass.

Engine line-up starts with the 231hp 3.0-litre diesel in the 45 TDI Quattro, developing 500Nm of torque, followed by the 50 TDI Quattro; a more powerful version of the same 3.0-litre diesel engine with 286hp and 600Nm of torque.

The Q7 55 TFSI features a 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine with direct fuel injection that delivers 340hp and 500Nm.

All engines are married up with eight-speed Tiptronic transmission and Quattro permanent four-wheel drive and feature 48V mild-hybrid technology for enhanced fuel efficiency. All V6 engines have a towing capacity of up to 3.5 tonnes.

Prices start at £66,405 for the 45 TDI S Line, rising to £111,370 for the SQ7 Vorsprung. First customer deliveries are expected in May.
