Alfa Romeo reveals prices and specs for Tonale PHEV  

Alfa Romeo’s Tonale SUV is now available as a plug-in hybrid – the brand’s most efficient model yet.

The PHEV sits at the top of the Tonale range and forms a milestone in Alfa Romeo’s work to become a zero-emissions and 100% electrified brand in 2027

It’s dubbed the Plug-In Hybrid Q4 and teams up a 180hp, 1.3-litre turbo four-cylinder petrol and six-speed auto on the front axle, combined with a 122hp motor to power the rear wheels, fed by a 15.5kWh battery.

The result is all-wheel drive, an electric range of over 49 miles in the urban cycle and more than 372 miles of total range. Together with CO2 emissions of 29g/km, this puts the PHEV in the 8% BiK bracket for the 2022/23 tax year. Fuel consumption stands at an official 217.3mpg on the WLTP cycle.

Power output is 280hp and the Plug-In Hybrid Q4 accelerates from zero to 62 mph in 6.2 seconds and delivers a top speed of 84mph in full-electric mode and 128mph in hybrid mode.

The battery can be charged in less than 2.5 hours from a 7.4kW charger.

It’s available from launch in Veloce grade (priced from £48,495) plus a Speciale launch edition (£44,595), while a Ti trim arrives later.

The Ti version includes 18-inch dark finish diamond-cut alloy wheels, gloss-black body kit, with satin side and front inserts, privacy glass and black painted mirror caps. The interior features sporty black cloth upholstery, four-way lumbar adjustment on the driver’s seat with, 60/40 split rear seats with ski pass and sport leather steering wheel with start button,

The Veloce adds in bespoke badging and body kit, 19-inch dark finish diamond cut alloy wheels and red-painted Brembo brake calipers. Interior upgrades bring aluminium door sills and column-mounted aluminium shift paddles, plus black and red Alcantara upholstery. The Veloce also gets Alfa Dual Stage Valve suspension (DSV) to enhance ride quality.

The Speciale launch edition delivers enhanced contents and connectivity including gloss black body kit, 20-inch alloy wheels and metal pedals.

Across the range, a brand-new infotainment system comes as standard, featuring a 12.3-inch digital screen and 10.25-inch main touchscreen unit and with over-the-air updates.

Four new functions debut to further expand upon the Alfa Connect Services. These include E-control, which allows the customer to control various functionalities based on the EV features directly via the app; Dynamic Range Mapping; Charging Station Finder; and My eCharge which links the My Alfa Connect app to Free2Move eSolutions services to manage public and private charging.

Orders are now open for the Tonale Plug-In Hybrid Q4 in Veloce and Speciale grades, with first deliveries taking place in Q1, while TI will be available to order in Q2.
