The new grading format aligns with other models and spans Prime-Line, Centre-Line, Homura, Exclusive-Line and Takumi trims. In total, some 18 models are available, covering 15 hatchback and three saloon versions.

Equipment additions include a new larger central screen, up 8 to 10.25 inches to enable clearer navigation mapping. Other connectivity upgrades include Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus QI Wireless Charging, while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto navigation is now supported in the head-up display. Additionally, the 2024 Mazda3 now features USB Type-C charging ports in line with a wider shift across the auto sector.

Engine line-up is carried over and brings a choice of 186hp e-Skyactiv-X or 122hp e-Skyactiv-G engines. The former uses Mazda’s SPCCI Spark Controlled Compression Ignition technology, which delivers a wider operating band of combustion efficiency, not only boosting maximum engine torque to 240Nm at 4,000rpm but also improving real-world fuel economy. The e-Skyactiv-X is available with all grades bar the entry-level Prime-Line and comes with the option of an automatic gearbox on the top two trims.

The most popular engine in the range, the 2.0-litre e-Skyactiv G engine delivers 122hp and 213Nm of torque. As with the e-Skyactiv-X, it features Mazda M Hybrid mild-hybrid technology to ensure maximum efficiency. It’s offered across all five grades and all bar the entry-level Prime-Line have a choice of automatic or manual gearbox.

The saloon has an identical wheelbase to the hatchback but is 200mm longer and shares just its windscreen and bonnet with the hatch. It’s solely offered in Exclusive-Line and Takumi grades with the 186hp e-Skyactiv X engine, the latter offering an automatic gearbox option.

Styling is carried over but with the addition of black wheels and door mirrors for the new Homura grade while a new Ceramic Metallic paint colour is available across the line-up for the first time.

Jeremy Thomson, managing director Mazda UK, said: “While our SUV range continues to grow, the popularity of the Mazda3 with our customers and dealers remains very strong, highlighting what an important car it is in our line-up.”

He added: “With its connectivity and interior screen upgrades, the 2024 Mazda3 continues to be one of the best-looking, highest-quality and most generously equipped hatchbacks in the market, while the stylish Mazda3 Saloon is a competitor in the compact executive saloon market. With five new model grades, there remains a lot choice across the Mazda3 range for customers to get the family hatchback they want.”
