2023 Mazda2 gets new look and more distinct model grades

The Mazda2 has had a makeover for 2023, gaining interior and exterior design updates and revised model grades.

The 2023 Mazda2 delivers more distinct model grades, increased colour choice and refreshed styling

On sale from late spring alongside last year’s Yaris-based Mazda2 Hybrid, the petrol-powered supermini gets a new grille, sleeker bumper design, decorative dash panels and two new exterior colours: Aero Grey and Air Stream Blue.

Trim levels have also been overhauled, giving broader differentiation between models through the newly renamed Centre-Line, Homura, Exclusive-Line and Homura Aka grades.

The entry-level Centre-Line and the Exclusive-Line now focus on a fun and casual nature and include a small yellow accent tab in the grille and revised rear bumper, while also delivering new colour combination choices and dash designs.

The Homura and top-spec Homura Aka opt for a sportier look and character, introducing a black honeycomb grille with red accents and black mirrors, plus 16-inch black and silver metallic machined alloy wheels and a gloss black roof on the Aka. The Homura Aka also features black half leather seats with red accents, a soft touch black dash panel with red stitching and a heated leather steering wheel with red stitching.

As before, the 1.5-litre petrol engine is offered in 75hp, 90hp and 115hp outputs and carries over the efficiency-focused updates introduced in 2022. These reduced CO2 emissions by 11-14g/km depending on output and transmission.

With the exception of the 75hp Centre-Line, all manual versions of the Mazda2 feature Mazda’s M Hybrid mild-hybrid system and now wear the e-Skyactiv G badge.

Standard specification across the range includes navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay, cruise control, integrated Bluetooth and climate control.

All models also feature the carmaker’s G-Vectoring Control Plus (GVC Plus) – an evolved version of its GVC system, which now uses the brakes to apply direct yaw movement control in addition to the previous system’s engine control.

Jeremy Thomson, managing director Mazda UK, said: “The Mazda2 may be the smallest car we produce, but it has at its heart the same values of style, driver involvement and quality that mark out all our vehicles. The 2023 Mazda2 offers our customers extra individuality with more distinct model grades, increased colour choice and refreshed styling.”

He added: “With the 2023 Mazda2 being sold alongside the Mazda2 Hybrid, we are giving customers in the supermini segment the choice of two distinct models, depending on their needs.”

Prices for the 2023 Mazda2 range start from £17,750.
