Škoda Octavia gains diesel SportLine and most powerful vRS yet

Škoda has revamped the Octavia line-up with a new diesel-powered SportLine variant alongside a new high-performance vRS flagship.

The new vRS is the most powerful production Octavia ever offered by Škoda

The diesel SportLine model features the Volkswagen Group’s familiar 150hp 2.0 TDI, equipped with a seven-speed DSG gearbox and offered alongside the existing 1.5 TSI and 1.5 TSI e-TEC petrol units.

Priced at £35,775 for the hatch and £36,805 for the estate, it delivers the same sporty styling as its petrol stablemates, married up with diesel efficiency; the official WLTP combined fuel consumption figure is 60.6mpg for the hatch and 59.9mpg for the estate.

All SportLine models come with 18-inch black alloy wheels, metallic paint and gloss black exterior trim details. The interior is kitted out with a special SportLine Design Selection that includes sports seats, a black headlining and carbon-effect door inserts.

The Octavia range also gains more powerful vRS hatch and estate flagships, now delivering an extra 20hp of power. With 265hp from the revised 2.0 TSI engine, it becomes the most powerful production Octavia ever offered by Škoda. The engine, which comes from the same EA888 family as the unit fitted to the championship-winning Fabia RS Rally2 car, also delivers 370Nm of peak torque and has a 0-62mph time of 6.4 seconds for the hatch and 6.5 for the vRS estate.

It’s solely available with a seven-speed DSG automatic as standard and has an WLTP combined fuel consumption figure of 40.8mpg (40.3mpg for the vRS estate).

A VAQ electrohydraulic differential lock optimises grip and both vRS models also feature a chassis lowered by 15mm to further improve driving dynamics.

Alongside sharper performance, the updated, fourth-gen Octavia vRS gets restyled front and rear bumpers, a new vRS logo on the grille, gloss black trim and 19-inch wheels plus black roof rails as standard on the estate.

The interior comes with a bespoke vRS Design Selection interior, three-spoke multifunction leather steering wheel, aluminium pedal covers and sports style seats with electrically adjustable lumbar support and massage function. Equipment includes a 13-inch infotainment system, 10-inch driver display, fast-charging USB-C ports, wireless charger with active ventilation, electrically operated boot with virtual pedal, keyless entry and start/stop and blind spot detection.

The Octavia vRS is priced at £38,670 for the hatch and £39,775 for the estate.
