Said to retain all of the style, sportiness and driving dynamics expected from Alfa Romeo, the baby electric SUV is the first series production EV from the brand.

Previously named Milano but rebranded following a political hubbub, the Junior sits on Stellantis’ e-CMP platform used for other group models such as the Jeep Avenger and Peugeot e-2008 – and undercuts several of them on pricing.

It’s available in three versions – Elettrica, Speciale and Veloce. The first two come with a 156hp front-mounted motor and the 250-mile WLTP range while the sportier Veloce delivers 240hp and a WLTP range of 215 miles. All versions use a 54kWh battery seen in their Stellantis sibling and are able to complete a 10-80% charge from a 100kW rapid charger in less than 30 minutes. An 11kW onboard charger comes as standard.

For £33,895, the entry-level Junior Elettrica delivers 18-inch diamond-cut aero alloy wheels, LED headlamps and taillamps, gloss black mirror covers, rain-sensing wipers and rear parking sensors. The interior comes with a 10.25-inch instrument cluster and 10.25-inch central screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus keyless go and Alfa Romeo Connected Services. Standard safety systems include adaptive cruise control, active lane assist and automatic emergency braking and eCall.

The Junior Speciale Elettrica is priced from £35,695 and gains a sports styling kit with diamond black Scudetto, dark-tinted rear windows and 18-inch alloy wheels. The interior features Spiga vinyl, a six-way electrically operated driver’s seat with massage function, leather steering wheel, sports pedals and kick plates. The infotainment is uplifted with navigation, keyless entry gets proximity access technology and there’s a 180-degree rear camera, adaptive cruise control with lane centring and traffic jam assist, plus a handsfree electric tailgate.

The Veloce model comes with the more powerful 240hp electric powertrain, Torsen differential, 25mm lower suspension and sport brake calipers. Design is boosted with 20-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, black roof, dark-tinted rear windows, red-painted brake calipers and sports styling kit with diamond black Scudetto. The interior is uprated with Corsa Sabelt seats in black and red leather and suede, leather steering wheel, sports pedals and kick plates. Prices start from £42,295.

Three option packs are also available, Technology, Premium and Sport. The Technology pack comes with Level 2 autonomous driving, hands-free electric tailgate, LED Matrix lights and connected navigation with virtual assistant. Premium pack adds a vinyl-fabric blend interior, electrically operated driver’s seat with massage function, interior ambient lighting, and aluminium pedals and kick plate. Sport pack delivers Sabelt seats, Alcantara upholstery and sporty exterior features.

Orders for the Alfa Romeo Junior open later this month.
