Diversions on the M25 and M26 are likely to remain in place until this afternoon following a major lorry fire, drivers have been warned.

All lanes on the M25 clockwise carriageway remain closed between J5 near Sevenoaks and J6 near Godstone following the HGV fire on Sunday night, National Highways said.

The stretch of clockwise carriageway is likely to remain closed throughout the morning as specialist recovery of the vehicle is needed, as well as resurfacing to the damaged road surface.

Surrey Police said the anti-clockwise carriageway has reopened, but lanes three and four remain closed within J6.

The M26 westbound remains closed between J2A near Wrotham Heath and M25/A21.

The fire happened around 10pm Sunday night.

Emergency services including Surrey Police and Surrey Fire & Rescue remain in attendance at the scene.
