Citroën has officially retired its C1 city car as it switches focus to the Ami Electric and the new C3 You version.

The C1 launched in 2005 and sold almost 1.2 million units over two generations

The last C1 model has now rolled off the production line at the Czech factory in Kolin, bringing the curtain down on a hugely popular model.

Launched in 2005, almost 1.2 million C1 models were sold and found favour for their design, practicality and urban agility. The line-up included three- and five-door versions, and the second-generation model, which arrived in 2014, added in an electric cabrio-style canvas roof on Airscape models along with a 7-inch touchscreen.

It’s being retired due to changing buyer patterns and latest urban mobility needs, which have led Citroën to focus on the two-seater Ami Electric; designed to provide a solution for customers looking for a 100%-electric, compact urban mobility solution for local journeys.

Customers needing more space and versatility are now being pointed in the direction of a new ‘You’ trim that launches for the C3 this spring. More details are due later in Q1 2022.
