It’s priced from £39,235, ensuring it swerves the VED Expensive Car Supplement on cars over £40k while still offering the same practicality, capability and striking design as the rest of the line-up.

The new EV6 Air Standard Range features a 63.0kWh battery, compared to the 84kWh pack in the rest of the range.

It’s capable of driving up to 265 miles on the WLTP combined cycle and has the same 800V charging capabilities as the wider EV6 range, enabling it to charge from 10 to 80% in 18 minutes from a 350kW DC charger, and 58 minutes from a 50kW DC charger.

The smaller battery also lowers the car’s kerb weight to 1,955kg while the insurance group for the new entry-level model goes down to 29E.

Powered by a single rear-mounted motor, the EV6 Air Standard Range can complete the zero to 62mph sprint in 8.7 seconds, with a top speed of 115mph.

Specification from the EV6 Air with the larger battery pack is carried over and includes 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps, heated front seats and steering wheel, Smart Cruise Control with stop/go functionality, start/stop button with smart entry, a panoramic driver display and touchscreen with navigation (formed of two 12.3-inch curved displays), wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and seven years’ free Kia Connect telematics services.

It also comes with the same level of space for occupants, as well as a 490-litre luggage capacity and 52-litre ‘frunk’ for storing a charging cable, and is capable of towing braked trailers up to 750kg.

And the new model carries over Kia’s seven-year/100,000-mile warranty (eight-year/100,000-mile warranty for the EV battery and motor).

The interior features black cloth and artificial leather, and is available with a choice of standard or premium paint finishes: Runway Red, Midnight Black, Glacier White and Interstellar Grey. Customers can specify premium paint options for £675.

Orders are open now for the new model, with first customer deliveries due to start later in May.
