HMRC publishes latest Advisory Fuel Rates
HMRC has published its Advisory Fuel Rates (AFRs), effective from 1 March 2022 but bringing few changes.
Advisory Fuel Rates remain the same for all petrol and diesel bands and there’s just one change for LPG-fuelled cars
Announced as pump prices hit record highs and are set to soar higher still, the new AFRs see petrol and diesel rates remain the same across all three engine size ranges.
For LPG-fuelled vehicles, the only change is to the rate for engines of 1400cc or less, which goes up by 1ppm.
Meanwhile, despite rising energy prices, the Advisory Electricity Rate (AER) for reimbursing electric company car mileage remains at 5ppm, following the 25% increase from 4ppm in the 1 December 2021 rate.
The new tables are as follows (old rates in brackets):
Engine size | Petrol – amount per mile | LPG – amount per mile |
---|---|---|
1400cc or less | 13 pence (13p) | 8 pence (9p) |
1401cc to 2000cc | 15 pence (15p) | 10 pence (10p) |
Over 2000cc | 22 pence (22p) | 15 pence (15p) |
Engine size | Diesel – amount per mile |
---|---|
1600cc or less | 11 pence (11p) |
1601cc to 2000cc | 13 pence (13p) |
Over 2000cc | 16 pence (16p) |
The previous rates can be used for up to one month from the date the new rates apply. Hybrid cars are treated as either petrol or diesel cars for AFR purposes.
