HMRC hosts new company car tax checking tool
The new tool aims to simplify the HMRC checking process.
Through a recently launched online tool hosted on the HMRC website, drivers needing to pay tax on a company car can check their car’s details, inform HMRC about any changes to their car that have been made since 6 April 2016, and if their employer pays for fuel, update their fuel benefit.
The new tool aims to simplify the HMRC checking process, and means that company car drivers do not have to wait until the end of the financial year to update their details.
To access the service, the driver will need to input the price of their current car and its CO₂ emissions, as well as their National Insurance (NI) number.
The company car tax service is not available to customers that are part of a car averaging or car sharing scheme, or their employer is managing benefits and expenses through the company payroll (known as ‘payrolling’).
These drivers are encouraged to contacted HMRC separately to update company car details.
