Hiyacar launches new car club in Waltham Forest

Hiyacar has teamed up with the London Borough of Waltham Forest to open a new car club.

The scheme gives access to 10 conveniently located vehicles, designed to provide affordable transport options

The scheme provides businesses and residents with access to 10 conveniently located vehicles, designed to provide affordable transport options.

The cars are spread across the borough, and can be found on: Clarence Road, Barrett Road, Haroldstone Road, Woodstock Road, King Edward Road, Aylmer Road, Esther Road, Sunnyside Road, Wesley Road and Belgrave Road.

Drivers can access the cars by downloading the Hiyacar app and signing up for free as a Hiyacar member. Prices start from £4 per hour or £48 per day.

Graeme Risby, CEO and co-founder of Hiyacar, said: “It is great to be working with the London Borough of Waltham Forest on this, providing their residents with more affordable transport options. Car clubs are a great way for London boroughs to help decrease private car ownership as well as offering those without a car, access to one when and where they need it.”

Research published last month from the national shared transport charity Collaborative Mobility UK (CoMoUK) shows the number of active car club members in the UK almost doubled last year, helping to reduce congestion on our roads and carbon emissions. Car clubs also help members to save money and benefit from increased use of active travel as a result of getting rid of a car.

Commenting on the new scheme, Councillor Clyde Loakes, deputy leader of the council, added: “So many of our residents are already car-free, with more and more following in their footsteps, making a hugely positive impact on our borough. Hiyacar will give even more residents the opportunity to go car-free, but still have the option to drive if and when they need it. Car Clubs complement Waltham Forest’s pioneering and leading work on improving the priority and infrastructure that helps more residents to walk and cycle more of their local journeys.”
