Car sharing platform Hiyacar has appointed George Webb, former executive director at RAC Plc, as its new executive chair.

Webb has provided senior consultancy over the past six months and has now been appointed to the new role to lead the business.

His expertise in fleet management, technology and leadership will be vital in driving Hiyacar forward. This includes the company’s public sector pool fleet management and expanding its London car club and its peer-to-peer vehicle sharing enterprise.

Webb began his career as a software entrepreneur, founded the fleet management software company Tranman and led it from an MBO to a trade sale to RAC.

In 2001, he joined the RAC, leading to a role as chief executive of its Ministry of Defence business. He later oversaw the operational and financial performance of both the MOD’s UK white fleet contract and the C Vehicle Private Finance Initiative (PFI).

George Webb said: “I have transformed the fortunes of technology businesses of various scales and look forward to driving Hiyacar’s success and cutting-edge technology forward. Together with the talented Hiyacar team I am going to make a significant impact in the car sharing industry. Additionally, I am committed to advancing our sustainability goals working with the market to achieve its net zero targets.”

Hiyacar’s UK-based platform supports 100+ car clubs in London and also enables the public sector to shift to an efficient, green pool fleet, cutting costs on mileage payments, taxi fares and daily rentals.

The keyless service allows colleagues to unlock and start cars using a smartphone app, eliminating the need for in-person key exchanges, increasing utilisation, reducing costs and lowering emissions.
