Fleetmatics takes to the track to show how GPS tracking can aid fleet safety
To demonstrate how GPS tracking can contribute to tackling aggressive driving styles, Fleetmatics installed its latest mobile workforce solution, Fleetmatics REVEAL, on three different cars – two racing cars and one road vehicle – and asked three professional drivers to drive them around Donington Park race track.
A party of 20 fleet managers from across the UK and Ireland were then given the opportunity to experience ‘bad driving’ first hand by taking a fast ride with the drivers, while observing the Fleetmatics REVEAL platform in action.
In total, a staggering 3,810 examples of aggressive driving behaviour were recorded, including hard braking, quick starting and harsh cornering.
Derek Bryan, European sales director at Fleetmatics, said: ‘Reducing poor driving habits is key to enhancing safety while increasing efficiency and the Driving Experience Day demonstrated how effective GPS tracking could be in recording aggressive driving styles.’
As part of the Driving Experience Day, the attendees were also invited to try out a high-tech racing simulator, with those achieving the best time winning the chance to drive Fleetmatics’ road car around the track themselves.
‘In our view, these activities are an exciting and fun way of engaging with customers while showing them how dangerous and costly bad driving could be for their businesses,’ comments Kate Doyle, Marketing Specialist for Europe at Fleetmatics.
