Fleet drivers urged to take up free tyre pressure checks as tyre safety month starts

The campaign, which has been organised by not-for-profit road safety group TyreSafe, is encouraging drivers to make monthly checks on their tyre pressures to ensure they remain safe on the road, whilst also helping their tyres to last longer and even reduce their fuel bills.

Recent results from a pan-European survey by one TyreSafe member involving more than 27,000 cars found that 78% were being driven on under-inflated tyres. Even more alarming was the fact that more than a quarter of the sample (28.4%) had tyres that were either seriously or severely under-inflated, greatly reducing their safety on the road.

To help support tyre safety month, tyre retailers and dealers across the UK are offering free tyre health checks.

Drivers simply need to enter their postcode at www.tyresafe.org to find their nearest tyre retailer whose qualified staff will be able to provide a free tyre safety check.

The website also includes a free iPhone app and online tool that provides drivers with their correct tyre pressures simply by inputting their vehicle registration details.
