Fantasy Fleet: Benetti Oasis 40m BO116 superyacht

In our latest look at mobility outside of the box, John Challen explores whether the Benetti Oasis 40m BO116 superyacht could prove a Wonderwall for fleets.

Listen up – a certain Manchester band has been in the headlines a lot recently – and now yacht manufacturer Benetti’s masterplan is for two of its latest models with the same name as said band to have a similar impact. The two boating brothers – the Oasis 40m BO116 and Oasis 34m BO0210 – won’t exactly go supersonic, but will hit a top speed of 17 knots. Whatever the cruising speed, we’re sure that everyone on board will roll with it.

For Fantasy Fleet purposes, let’s stick with the bigger model, some of which are bound to go all around the world in their lifetime. If not, then they could at least end half the world away. For anyone interested in environmental issues with the yachts and asking if she’s electric, that would be a flat no – power comes from two MAN V12-1400 engines. Those motors might not live forever, but they are sure to get to Columbia and back a good few times.

The BO116 will say its first hello at the Cannes Yachting Festival, which runs from 10 to 15 September. According to Benetti, the focus for the Oasis superyacht is on “achieving a high level of wellbeing” – essentially discouraging cigarettes and alcohol with a wellness cabin in place of the traditional gym area. That space is one of five cabins in total, enough to accommodate up to 12 guests who might want to try and stay young.

The craft’s Oasis Deck transforms the beach area into a sea-view terrace, enabling owners to acquiesce to cruising closer to nature than ever before in a Benetti yacht. For those looking for what some might say to be a bit more of a party vibe, a special lighting system has been integrated into the sun deck, along with a DJ console. However, the large shower in the owner’s suite can also be used as a Turkish bath, should anyone want to slide away for a bit of peace and quiet.

Target customers are bound to include the odd rock ‘n’ roll star, but don’t rule out buyers who are married with children.

Editor’s note: apologies for all the puns – just blame my big mouth
