EVA England expands board with tech and AI expert

Mazhar (Maz) Shar, a tech and AI expert as well as an EV advocate, has joined the EVA England board of directors.

A long-time volunteer, Maz Shar joins the EVA England board of directors

A long-time volunteer and EV advocate, Shar brings a wealth of experience in technology and sustainability. With a background in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, he has worked with companies such as Dyson and Ocado to develop cutting-edge smart home tech, VR and robotics. As an AI engineering manager, he focuses on helping robots better understand the world around them.

In his role as a volunteer for EVA England, Shar worked closely on the Public Charge Point Regulations 2023 and created the Constituency EV Map, a tool mapping EV chargers by constituencies, enabling drivers to hold their local decision-makers to account.

Warren Philips, chair of the board, said: “With Maz on board, we’re adding valuable technical expertise and first-hand charging experience to EVA England’s arsenal, as we continue to campaign for more accessible public charging and fairer pricing. His data-led approach and deep understanding of the real-world challenges EV drivers face will help strengthen the organisation’s campaign work.”

Maz’s passion for responsible innovation extends to climate action. Since switching to an electric vehicle in 2019, he has driven over 100,000 miles – about 40,000 of which used only the public charging network, he estimates – and has used this personal experience to champion better EV infrastructure and adoption. Under the name EpicWinningMaz, he has built a dedicated social media following by sharing data-driven insights and pushing for improvements in the EV space.

Shar said: “I’m thrilled to join the board of EVA England, an organisation that has been giving a voice to EV drivers and shaping government legislation.

“As someone who shares EVA England’s passion for electric vehicles and concern about the health and climate impacts of petrol and diesel vehicles, I’m eager to contribute to their mission.”
