Enterprise takes over and expands Aberdeen car club

Enterprise Car Club has taken over the operation of Aberdeen’s car club, expanding the scheme to help more drivers cut both costs and CO2.

Enterprise is deploying more than 30 cars across Aberdeen, located in designated car club bays and available for businesses and private drivers to book via an app or online

The car rental giant is deploying more than 30 cars across the city, located in designated car club bays and available for businesses and private drivers to book via an app or online and benefit from pay-as-you-drive payment.

Members will also be able to access Enterprise’s wider UK car club network, encompassing some 1,500 cars and vans located in more than 180 UK cities, towns and communities.

As part of the contract, Enterprise will also provide Aberdeen City Council employees with managed pool cars, providing staff with access to a vehicle for work purposes. The contract will last for an initial three-year period with the option to extend for up to a further two.

An Aberdeen City Council spokeswoman said: “We welcome Enterprise as the new operator for our car club and look forward to seeing the benefits of an international vehicle hire company in the driving seat in the months ahead.”

Dan Gursel, managing director of Enterprise Car Club, added: “Scotland has been a leader in car club adoption, and we are delighted to build on our presence in the country.”

Latest research by CoMoUK, the accreditation body for car clubs in the UK, has shown the many benefits of such schemes, including cost savings and reduced CO2.

Aberdeen first introduced a car club since April 2012, which was run by Co-wheels and became the first car club in Scotland to introduce electric vehicles and the first in the world to trial hydrogen vehicles. Although no longer the main contract supplier for the City Council, Co-wheels will continue to operate car club vehicles in Aberdeen.
