Engineius saves fleets 1.8 million tonnes of CO2 in 2022

Engineius cut more than 1.8 million tonnes of CO2 from fleet emissions in 2022, supported by its greener approach to vehicle movement.

Engineius uses its technology-enabled service to minimise the eco impact of vehicle movements

The firm, which will be exhibiting at this April’s Great British Fleet Event, revealed the major CO2 reduction as it highlighted how it’s working with customers to help them reduce their emissions in tandem with the switch to EVs, alongside its climate offsetting work.

Tris Benson, commercial director, explained: “We don’t use chaser vehicles. This outdated practice more than doubles the mileage for a delivery. Our EV deliveries are driven and not transported on diesel trucks, which sounds obvious, but is not yet the industry standard practice, and we offer an entirely digital journey.”

Many end-user fleets are already switching to electric vehicles in the run-up to the 2030 ICE ban, supporting the UK’s net zero plans while also boosting their own ESG credentials.

Yet, research conducted by Engineius has found that some logistics firms are delivering EVs on diesel transporters. Not only does this counter some of the carbon savings from the EV switch, but it’s also more expensive.

“This is due to EVs being significantly heavier than their fossil-fuelled counterparts and therefore has implications for transported delivery. Engineius recommends that the greenest option is to drive and not transport, and with EVs’ range ever improving, this is an increasingly low-risk option,” added Benson.

It’s one of the ways that the Engineius technology-enabled service works to take inefficiencies out of the sector.

Founded in 2017 to bring vehicle movement “out of the dark ages”, its work includes minimising the eco impact of vehicle movements. Rather than using duplicate ‘chaser’ vehicles or drivers, drivers turn to public transport where needed but the main priority is on creating joined-up jobs to ensure return journeys are incorporated into day-to-day business as much as possible.

The company’s focus on a digital journey also eliminates waste, removing the need for unnecessary paperwork and taking the whole process online, reducing administration and processing costs.

Last year also saw Engineius take further positive action to reinforce its green credentials by officially becoming carbon-neutral. It’s also working to go carbon-neutral for its customers’ vehicle movements.

Benson concluded: “Engineius is driven by technology, and all users will benefit from our commitment to ongoing research and development to continually improve our digital journey and reduce the impact of vehicle movement on the environment.”
