BMW’s most efficient diesel 5 Series saloon will go on sale in March, offering fuel economy of 72.4mpg with 102g/km CO2 emissions.

Priced at £1,195 over the 520d SE, the EfficientDynamics gets reduced weight and improved aerodynamics, as well as a re-tuned 2.0-litre, 188bhp diesel engine and eight-speed automatic transmission.
This offers a 5% fuel economy benefit over the SE’s 68.9mpg, and takes the economy-tuned 5 Series into a lower Benefit-in-Kind bracket thanks to CO2 emissions falling from 108g/km.
The 520d EfficientDynamics joins the range alongside the 530e plug-in hybrid, which offers a fully electric range of 29 miles and combined 249bhp, with CO2 emissions from 46g/km. Prices for the 530e start at £43,985 on the road.
