2017 Toyota Yaris to get new 1.5-litre petrol
The 2017 Toyota Yaris will get a new 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, bringing increased efficiency and power compared to the outgoing 1.33-litre unit.
The new efficient engine has been developed to meet future Euro 6c emissions standards.
Developed in anticipation of the future Euro 6c emissions standard and RDE (Real Driving Emission) homologation requirements, the new engine belongs to Toyota’s ESTEC (Economy with Superior Thermal Efficiency) engine family.
The 110bhp unit offers and peak torque of 120lb.ft at 4,400rpm. Compared to the 1.33-litre unit, it is 0.8 seconds quicker for the 0-62mph sprint (11.0 versus 11.8), while at overtaking speed the improvement is more than a second, moving from 50 to 75mph in 17.6 seconds compared to 18.8.
Efficiency figures have not been released but Toyota says the new engine achieves a reduction of up to 12% in fuel consumption, under current NEDC official test criteria, as well as lower CO2 emissions.
