Vehicle tracking drives down fuel costs at Sunderland City Council

Ctrack’s tracking system has been fitted on a range of commercial vehicles including vans, road sweepers and refuse trucks to drive down costs, enhance performance and protect mobile workers.

Fuel management was identified as a key aspect of the solution, with Sunderland City Council seeking to minimise usage and reduce the environmental impact of its fleet. Ctrack has already enabled the council to monitor and capture real-time movements to ensure vehicles are driven efficiently, avoid unnecessary journeys and remain on-route.

Ctrack will also help Sunderland City Council to optimise workflow management by accessing real-time and historical fleet data that provides an overview of vehicle status and resource availability. This added visibility and insight will help the council to effectively schedule planned work and allocate ad hoc jobs to the most suitable mobile team.

In addition, Ctrack will help streamline accident management by providing access to accurate historical data detailing vehicle movements. This information – including location, speed and direction – will assist in the investigation of vehicle incidents, protecting the council and its mobile workforce against fraudulent claims. Each vehicle will also be fitted with remote panic alarms, providing added security to lone employees, especially those working late night shifts.

John Todd at Sunderland City Council said: 'Ctrack’s tracking system has already contributed to driving down our fuel costs and we expect to achieve further business and operational benefits moving forward. We have worked closely with Ctrack to develop a tracking solution that will enhance the overall performance of our fleet and ultimately heighten the service we provide to our customers.'
