Zipcar fleet of Volkswagen Golf GTE PHEVs goes live in London

The vehicles are being offered in partnership with Westminster City Council and Volkswagen UK, with 40 cars located on-street in the City of Westminster alongside new charging infrastructure and 10 cars located elsewhere in London, including Tower Bridge and Old Oak.

The vehicles are being made available to Zipcar members at the same hourly rate of £7 per hour as a petrol Volkswagen Golf.

The launch of the new vehicles follows last year’s announcement by then Deputy Mayor for Transport, Isabel Dedring, of the ULEV Delivery Plan, which included a proposal to work with the car club industry to identify and put in place infrastructure to support the industry’s ambitions for at least 50% of their fleets to be ULEV by 2025.

Cllr Heather Acton, Westminster City Council cabinet member for parking and sustainability, said of today’s news: “Electric vehicles are key to helping address pollution. Giving more people the chance to drive an electric car in London, and on a shared basis, is a big step towards creating a greener city.

“We are delighted that residents and visitors to Westminster will have the opportunity to try out these vehicles.”
