Named the WY01, the new tyre will use similar technology to that used in the company's W.drive range of winter tyres for cars. This means that the tyre is designed to offer better performance at temperatures below 7°C.

Yokohama says that the tread and construction of the WY01 has been designed to maximise traction in the worst winter conditions.

The WY01 will initially be available in four sizes, including 205/65R16C for models such as the Citroen Dispatch and the Renault Trafic, 235/65R16C for the Mercedes Sprinter, 195/75R15C for the VW Crafter and 195/70R15C for the Ford Transit, among others.

Further details of the tyre, including price, will be available closer to the launch this autumn.
