Volvo to roll out first-ever over-the-air updates on XC40 Recharge

By / 2 months ago / Latest News / No Comments

Volvo’s XC40 Recharge electric car is to become the brand’s first model to get over-the-air (OTA) software updates.

Volvo XC40 Recharge drivers in Europe will soon be able to receive a range of OTA updates, including new features and improvements to the car’s infotainment and propulsion systems

The updates will start soon in Europe and will initially include a new base software for the electric car’s main electronic systems, bringing an increase in charging speed and an improved driving range.

Figures for these have not been announced but a Volvo spokesperson said the increase in range would likely to be small and incremental.

The updates for the XC40 Recharge will also include revisions to the Android Automotive operating system used for the car’s infotainment system, as well as updates to a variety of items such as Bluetooth connectivity, climate timers, the car’s digital owner’s manual and the 360-degree camera.

The update will be available automatically – XC40 Recharge drivers only have to accept the download and installation – and will mean that customers no longer have to visit a workshop to benefit from changes.

“The benefits of over-the-air updates are obvious,” said Henrik Green, chief technology officer at Volvo Cars. “Yesterday, you still had to drive to the workshop to get the latest updates to your car; today, you simply click OK and your electric Volvo takes care of the rest. It couldn’t be easier.”
