Volvo boosts in-car connectivity on all new cars

Volvo Car UK is installing a data SIM card as standard in all new models, making ‘big data’ available to drivers.

The addition of the Vodafone SIM card to all new Volvos provides occupants with a WiFi hotspot, access to apps, real-time traffic information and safety alerts

The feature is being introduced on all MY 2020 cars effective immediately, and can be retro-fitted to cars that have already been delivered.

Provided free of charge, the Vodafone SIM card provides access to up to 100GB of data, independent of the user’s own SIM-enabled devices and offering automatic roaming covering 42 European countries and overseas territories. It enables drivers and passengers to benefit from a WiFi hotspot that can  be used by up to eight devices. It also provides access to the car’s inbuilt apps along with real-time traffic information and safety alerts, such as dangerous conditions ahead.

The initial usage contract lasts for one year, after which the customer has the option to extend the agreement and continue to use the service by purchasing a data plan from Vodafone.
