Volkswagen has added a new flagship model to the Touareg range in the form of a 340hp 3.0 V6 TSI.

Priced from £52,635, the new unit joins the existing 231hp and 286hp 3.0-litre V6 TDI diesels, with all three units available in SEL, R-Line and R-Line tech specs.

As with the diesels, it comes as standard with 4Motion all-wheel drive with a limited slip differential, and provides peak torque of 450Nm between 1,340rpm and 5,300rpm along with a 0-62mph time of 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 155mph where permitted.

Towing weights remain unchanged over the diesel models, with a maximum weight of 3,500 kg possible for all three powertrains, while the 340hp Touareg is 50kg lighter than its diesel counterparts, at 2,020kg. On the combined cycle, the model returns 31.7mpg (WLTP), with CO2 emissions of 203g/km (NEDC Correlated).

Orders open today for the first petrol variant of the third-generation Touareg, with first cars expected to arrive in the UK in April.
