Volkswagen ID.4 electric SUV goes on sale
Volkswagen has opened orders for the ID.4; its first fully electric SUV and its first global EV.
The ID.4 1st Edition
On sale from £37,800 (incl. Plug-in Car Grant) for the initial wave of models, the ID.4 was revealed in the autumn and is the second vehicle in VW’s growing ID electric vehicle portfolio alongside the ID.3 hatchback.
As with the ID.3, it’s built on VW’s dedicated MEB platform and will launch in a number of models, spearheaded by a limited-run 1st Edition and followed by a range of pre-configured trim levels.
The 1st Edition model, which arrives in dealerships in March, uses a 204hp electric motor that provides 310Nm of torque. It’s rear-wheel driven and can accelerate from 0-62mph in 8.5 seconds with a maximum speed of 99mph. The 77kWh battery gives a 310-mile range and provides rapid charging compatibility of up to 125kW – enabling it to add up to 199 miles of range in just 30 minutes. The model also comes with Volkswagen brand’s high-voltage battery warranty of eight years / 100,000 miles.
Future models will include four-wheel drive capability.
The 1st Edition ID.4 is differentiated from the future line-up with a number of exterior and interior features, including bespoke alloys and paintwork colours. Standard equipment includes a reversing camera, parking sensors front and rear, heated seats and steering wheel, 10-inch infotainment display with Discover Pro navigation system and the ID. Light system, first seen on the ID.3. Safety features include Adaptive Cruise Control, Front Assist, and Lane Assist.
The ID.4 is also focused on ‘class-leading’ digitilisation and connectivity.

Its external dimensions are similar to the Tiguan, but thanks to the MEB platform and the packaging benefits of an electric drivetrain it boasts even more interior space along with that all-important lofty driving position.
