Volkswagen ID.3 and ID.4 get major pricing and specification changes

Volkswagen has updated its ID.3 and ID.4 electric vehicles with significant changes to trim levels and pricing.

The pre-configured trim-level structure for the ID.3 and ID.4 has been altered in favour of offering customers choice over option packs

A key change is the move away from a pre-configured trim-level structure in favour of offering customers choice over option packs when ordering an ID.3 or ID.4. Just as before, the different trim levels will still feature pre-determined packs as standard equipment, but now customers can choose to add additional packs to cater to their individual needs.

This means that whereas customers could previously only customise colours and wheels, they can now choose a trim level that best fits their needs and then specify further option packs on top.

For example, the Infotainment Package Plus (£2,200), which includes Augmented Reality Head-up Display and the 6+1 speaker sound pack, can now be added to all ID.3 and ID.4 models; previously it was just the Max and Tour.

VW has also streamlined the trim levels for both models; the recently introduced ‘City’ trim is now called ‘Life’ while the ‘Business’ and ‘Tech’ equipment levels have been discontinued.

The changes also bring reduced pricing for a number of ID.3 variants. This includes the ID.3 Family Pro and Family Pro Performance, which now come under the £35,000 threshold required to qualify for the £2,500 Plug-in Car Grant. These models, now priced at £33,640 and £34,960 respectively, fall to £31,140 and £32,460 OTR with the incentive applied. In total, six ID.3 variants are now eligible for the grant.

Volkswagen has also reduced pricing for the Max and range-topping Tour by £3,800 – the Tour, with its 77kWh battery and 340-mile range (WLTP, combined) is priced from £38,800, with the equipment-packed Max starting at £37,730.

The changes are part of model year 2022 revisions across the Volkswagen range, which also bring new paint colours while the T-Cross gets boosted standard equipment that now includes items such as power-adjustable, folding heated door mirrors and a multifunction steering wheel.
