Voi branches into e-bikes in UK

Swedish micromobility startup Voi is expanding into offering e-bikes, starting with the UK first.

The UK is the first market to launch e-bikes and Cambridge, Peterborough and Kettering are the first cities to have them, available alongside e-scooters

Running alongside its e-scooter schemes, the e-bikes will be made available to residents in Cambridge, Peterborough and Kettering.

Each region will have 20 e-bikes to hire. In Cambridge and Peterborough, they will be available to hire 24/7 while in Kettering they available from 4am to 11pm.

Voi said its multimodel offer enables travellers to use the best option for them; e-scooters are the best choice for short commutes of 1-3 miles, while e-bikes are more appropriate for slightly longer commute times; roughly 3-9 miles.

Voi e-bikes can be pedalled and are assisted by an electric motor up to 15.5mph. When fully charged, Voi’s e-bike can ride up to 31 miles.

Bikes will always be supplied fully charged; batteries will be swapped out by the Voi teams overnight.

Similarly to e-scooters, users need to be 18 years old and over, are required to download the Voi app, available for free on Apple App Store or Google Play, and will have to present at least a provisional licence.

It costs £1 to unlock the e-bike and then £0.15 per minute of usage. Voi also offers 24-hour (at £10) and 30-day (at £40) subscriptions that allow users to take an unlimited number of rides at a fixed rate. There are also discounts for students and those on a low income.

Voi is offering free e-bike rides to NHS and Emergency Service workers as part of its Voi 4 Heroes initiative, enabling them to carry out essential travel in a socially distanced manner. Users have to upload their NHS identity, Blue Light Card or Defence Discount Service to the Voi app or website to be eligible.
