Vauxhall will unveil its second-generation Insignia Sports Tourer at the Geneva Motor Show, which gets a longer and more capacious load area than its predecessor.

Set to be revealed alongside the Insignia Grand Tourer, the estate is up to 200kg lighter than its predecessor, while also slightly longer and lower.

Despite the sleeker silhouette, the extended wheelbase means there’s more room inside; extra leg, head and hip room for passengers and a longer load area too. With the seats folded flat, the Insignia Sports Tourer can accommodate loads of over two metres in length.

For added versatility, the rear bench can fold in three sections for loading through the cabin, and drops via buttons inside the tailgate. It can also be equipped with an electric tailgate, which opens by making a kicking motion under the rear bumper.

Vauxhall has yet to confirm the engine and trim line-up, but expect it to feature similar versions of the 1.6-litre ‘Whisper Diesel’ engine to the Astra, offered with the new eight-speed automatic transmission and four wheel drive.
