Updated Lexus ES to bring enhanced dynamics and safety

Lexus has showcased its updated ES executive saloon, revealing new features focused on enhancing comfort and ride dynamics as well as safety.

Unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show, the revised ES gets a new, stiffer rear suspension set-up, said to provide increased steering stability in situations such as high-speed lane changes, alongside changes to improve brake controllability.

Top-spec F Sport models also now feature new Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS), said to provide both high-quality ride comfort and a sharper steering response.

Updated safety technologies include the latest version of the Lexus Safety System+ system, which adds in functions such as Emergency Steering Assist and improved lane recognition performance, and uses enhanced cameras for the Digital Side View Monitor and the Pre-Collision System. The latter can now detect cyclists during daylight hours and pedestrians in poor light conditions.

Design changes are more minimal, refining the existing ES face with a new version of the Lexus ‘spindle’ grille and headlights – featuring the BladeScan adaptive high-beam system seen on other models, which brings improved high-beam illumination – as well as newly designed wheels.

The interior gets a new colour theme while features such as the new multimedia touchscreen have been engineered to be more user-friendly. Drivers can also make use of Apple CarPlay or Android Auto functionality and use the latest Lexus Link app to control tasks such as remote status of doors, windows and lights.

The new ES executive sedan will go on sale in Europe later this year.
